Gallery Sculpture

This is my newest piece. Don’t know what to call it yet. Anybody have any ideas? I’m keeping it in wet clay form in order to make a bronze cast later.

This is a ceramic bust of my step daughter Sofia. It’s my first portrait from life. It’s about half life size. 28 x 24 x 23 cms

These are two ceramic busts of Don Pepe Sierra a famous business tycoon who died in 1920. The first is much smaller than the second and was exhibited at the ” Primer Salón de Escultura Rodrigo Arenas Betancur” in June this year along with “Sofia”

 This piece cast in cement is a bust of Policarpa Salavarrieta a famous Colombian martyress who was executed in 1816. In reality it’s also a portrait of my wife who posed for the piece. It was cast from a latex mold. A process which took quite some time to complete.

Esta obra tiena cinco replicas en ceramica de la cabeza de Thomas Cipriano Mosquera conocido tambien como Mascachochas. La obra se llama Thomas most scary or Mascachochas.

Introducción al dibujo representativa o modulo complementario

 

• El estudiante conocerá los materiales del dibujo tonal como el lápiz, carboncillo, carboncillo comprimido y el grafito sobre papeles claros y de medio tono.
• A través de varios ejercicios guiados para aumentar las capacidades de observación, el estudiante desarrollará la técnica del dibujo representativa.
• Además el alumno realizará  una sería de trabajos independientes.

 Los ejercicios de observación en el aula de clase sería complementados con salidas al campo para realizar tareas de perspectiva y movimiento.

·         Los talleres en este curso tiene el propósito de mejorar la observación del alumno y el conocimiento de la anatomía humano para el dibujo con enfoques en la composición, la proporción, la forma y el movimiento.

·         Uno de los principales objetivos es de agilizar las habilidades del alumno en el uso de varias herramientas del dibujo.

El Primer Salon de Escultura “Rodrigo Arenas Betancur” se inaugará martes 10 de Junio en la biblioteca Marco Fidel Suarez de Bello a las 7pm. Exposición hasta junio 10 de 2008.

COLOMBIA 360º – GROUP SHOW

A raíz de tener que presentar un examen de conocimiento de historia, geografía y la constitución del país para la solicitud de nacionalidad colombiana, empecé de estudiar sobre los temas. El propósito original era de producir unas notas de estudio que me ayudará recordar todos de muchos datos y su secuencia. Hay un esfuerzo grande de entender la historia.
El resultado es una colección de dibujos y esculturas.
Aquí presento una seria de afiches en técnica mixta realizadas entre abril 2007 hasta septiembre 2007 cuando presenté el examen.

Con la exposicion Colombia 360º concluye una serie de cinco exposiciones 360º llevadas a cabo en la Galería Cerro Nutibara durante el segundo semestre del 2007, bajo la curaduría de Adriana Ríos Monsalve y con la coordinación del Ateneo Porfirio Barba Jacob, como parte de la convocatoria hecha por la Alcaldía de Medellín.

Colombia 360º incluye trabajos de los siguientes artistas: Carlos Uribe, Javier Burgos, Edward Duigenan, Juan Carlos Garzon, Luis Hernandez Mellizo y Antonio Valencia Madrid.

Cenralista, Federalista

This is a relatively small piece; about 6 inches long. It’s called Centralista, Federalista in reference to the two opposing factions that came about after Colombia gained its first independance, which was taken away again by Spain’s “reconquering” forces after only five years. This five-year period was know as ” la Patria Boba”; directly translated would probably mean “The Silly Nation”. There are two plasticine heads; one of Antonio Nariño, leader of the Centralists, who believed in having a centralized government and Camilo Torres who believed in a Federal State. I’ve used two symbols: the diamond and the club from the deck of cards to represent these two sides, whose idiologies I believe have transformed through history to : Conservatives and Liberals, the church and “no” church, right wing and left wing/ socialism, paramilitary versus guerilla, etc.

I suppose I could give it a second title in English “What side are you on?”

Images from the Colombian Coast

Here are some images of sketches I did when I travelled to Necocli, Tolu and Santa Marta.

This drawing in oil pastel I did in my studio a month after the trip based on a sketch I had done on the beach in Necocli. The drawing is called “A Day in Tayrona”, a place I hadn’t visited on this particular trip, but one which has great significance for me.

Life Drawing

In order to get back to art after a fourteen year old break, I decided to attend life drawing classes. I began at the ” Universidad Nacional” in Medellín in 2003. Most of the paintings I did in my own studio in 2004. I continued attending classes until they stopped in 2006. I have tried to include the dates as I remember them.

 Just before taking the photographs of my drawings a downpour had caused a leak in the roof of the studio and unfortunately a lot of drawings were partly ruined. As you may notice in the above study. I hope this doesn’t affect the viewing.
